Race Day Delivers Drought Relief

Press Release 10.12.2018

A fundraising day in aid of drought relief was ironically nearly washed out last month when it was held on November 28 – a day which experienced the highest November rainfall on record.

The spectacular race day was held at Warwick Farm Racecourse and organised by Cabra-Vale Diggers Club as part of their Cabra Diggers Cares community program which sees the club partner with not-for-profit or charity organisations on specific projects.

Despite the weather the sell-out crowd of industry supporters and fellow club groups enjoyed a full card of seven races. The event raised over $20,000 with all proceeds going to the ‘Buy A Bale’ program. Funds were raised through both live and silent auctions as well as a raffle to win a 4oz gold bar.

Since its inception, ‘Buy A Bale’ has delivered over 160,000 bales of hay across four states. In one of the driest countries on the planet, there will always be farmers who need assistance feeding their animals.

But the Buy a Bale program has become more than fodder. Today the Buy a Bale campaign is part of the charity Rural Aid which offers a variety of services and support to rural communities not only suffering through natural disasters but communities that need help remaining in existence.

Cabra-Vale Diggers Board of Directors and CEO Boris Belevski wished to thank all who supported the event. “We’ve been amazed and humbled at the support from our industry colleagues in helping us make this event the success it was, and sincerely thank them for braving the weather and coming out and joining us today,” said Mr Belevski. “If only we could package up some of this rain and send it off to our farmers too.”
