Future Leaders Program

In September 2018 the Club embarked upon the Cabra Diggers Cares program. One of the first initiatives was to engage the young women of the community and find ways to support the refugee and migrant women in the local community. In conjunction with The Future Leaders company, a program was developed which comprised of sixteen year 11 students from local high schools and several Cabra Vale Diggers young women, to participate in several months of workshops to develop their leadership potential and create programs that could assist our local refugee and migrant women. Each of the four groups were mentored by a local organisation involved with supporting women.

The groups then presented their ideas in a Pitch to the panel of judges in November 2018. The winning group was mentored by Core Communities which was centred around a taster course in association with TAFE NSW at Wetherill Park. The course aims were to develop the refugee and migrant interaction and social connection with each other and the community and to learn a skill.

The course was delivered by TAFE NSW and was completed in early June 2019. On Thursday 27 June 2019 with support from the Club, fifty friends, supporters and family attended a fashion show put on by the students to display their achievements. This was a stunning display of their new skill set.

Congratulations to all the students.
